Open Faced Channel Letters Put a clear face on a standard channel letter and you have what's called an open faced channel letter. Without the colored face present to diffuse the glow of the neon tubes beneath, your letters will look more like the illustration on the left. |

When the letters are either small or very thin a single stroke of neon is used, but if the letters are large enough and can accommodate multiple strokes of neon, they can look like the example on the left. |
