		THE THREE BASIC TYPES OF ILLUMINATED CHANNEL LETTERS: STANDARDREVERSEOPEN FACED Standard Channel Letters The back of a standard channel letter is aluminum. The letter face is a colored plexiglas to diffuse the glow of the neon tubes beneath. Producing the desired letter color is accomplished by combining different colors of neon with a variety of colored plexiglas faces. If the color needed is not available in plexiglas, then a translucent colored vinyl can be overlayed on a white or clear plexiglas face. An acrylic product called trim cap is used to fasten the face to the letter's return. The return and trim cap are often the same color as the face and look like the example above. But, if a contrasting effect is desired, then different colors can be combined. In the sample at left the returns are painted white and the faces are a blue plexiglas. The trim cap, holding the face to the return, is red.
