THE THREE BASIC TYPES OF ILLUMINATED CHANNEL LETTERS: STANDARD REVERSE OPEN FACED |
Standard Channel Letters The back of a standard channel letter is aluminum. The letter face is a colored plexiglas to diffuse the glow of the neon tubes beneath. Producing the desired letter color is accomplished by combining different colors of neon with a variety of colored plexiglas faces. If the color needed is not available in plexiglas, then a translucent colored vinyl can be overlayed on a white or clear plexiglas face. An acrylic product called trim cap is used to fasten the face to the letter's return. |
The return and trim cap are often the same color as the face and look like the example above. But, if a contrasting effect is desired, then different colors can be combined. In the sample at left the returns are painted white and the faces are a blue plexiglas. The trim cap, holding the face to the return, is red. |
